Unleashing our top Winter Sport Destinations

Winter is fast approaching and its time to start planning your adventures, if you haven’t picked out your trip already we have put together some of the top destinations to travel to this winter and try something new. Be warned these spots are not for the faint hearted.

Chamonix, France

The Chamonix valley takes rock climbing to the next level with its famous Ice Falls. There are 200 climbing routes in the Chamonix area suitable for a range of skill levels. There’s also the opportunity to try out Kite Skiing (windsurfing on snow!)

St. Moritz, Switzerland

St. Moritz is the ideal destination for thrill-seekers. Firstly there’s the speed defying ‘Cresta Run’, a 1,200 metre toboggan run which regularly sees top speeds of 140 kph. The town is also home to world’s only remaining natural ice ‘Olympia Bob Run’. If you time your trip for the end of January you can even catch a glimpse of the Snow Polo World Cup.

Oberhof, Germany

Biathlon, the combination of cross-country skiing and rifle shooting, is a challenge like no other. If you’ve never tried biathlon then you need to get yourself to Oberhof, Germany. The surrounding area boasts ideal terrain for the sport and even hosted the World Championships in 2004.  Winter sport facilities around Oberhof are highly regarded with the town regularly hosting the FIL world luge championships.

Levi, Finland

This resort is tucked away all the way up towards the edge of the Arctic Circle. The local area is comprised of ideal terrain for cross-country skiing and snowmobiling. The unique location of Levi means that you may just be fortunate enough to try out your favourite winter sports with the stunning backdrop of the Northern Lights.

Gudauri, Georgia

While Levi is just about as north of Europe as you can get, Gudauri will bring you towards the eastern frontier of the continent. This Georgian resort is situated on the Southern slopes of the majestic Caucasus Mountains. Here you can try out Speed Riding and Paragliding, in addition to skiing.
